For us, Babetta is more than just an old moped. It is a legend known by almost everyone who grew up in Czechoslovakia or has a connection to two stroke engines, garage projects and modifications of old machines. At bbttagroup, we have been working with Babetta for a long time: from spare parts and tuning components to our own technical solutions. With this project, we wanted to show that even parts that no longer have value for veteran restoration or classic tuning can still gain a new purpose.
That is how our electric Babetta was created. It is a project in which we combined a piece of history with a modern drive system and gave a second chance to parts that would otherwise probably remain forgotten in storage or end up as waste.
Why we started building an electric Babetta
The goal was not to destroy a preserved veteran or convert a nice original piece. Quite the opposite. For the build, we used parts in poorer condition that were no longer suitable for a high quality veteran restoration and, at the same time, did not make sense as a basis for performance oriented Babetta tuning with a combustion engine.
The frame, some body parts and other components had already gone through years of use, damage or wear. Instead of writing them off, we decided to create something new: a project that keeps the visual identity of Babetta, while moving it into a more modern form.
A combination of classic design and modern drive technology
During the electric conversion, we wanted to preserve the character of Babetta. Its simple construction, low weight and iconic appearance are the qualities that make Babetta what it is. That is why we approached the project in a way that would not make the result feel like a completely different machine, but rather a modern interpretation of the original moped.
The combustion engine was replaced by an electric drive, which provides immediate response, quieter riding and easier use. The project uses a 3 kW BLDC electric motor, an electronic control unit and a 72 V Li Ion battery with a capacity of 30 Ah. This combination changed the behaviour of the Babetta and showed that even an old moped can gain a completely new riding character.

A second chance for parts that were no longer suitable for veteran restoration
When restoring veteran vehicles, it is important to use high quality, well preserved or professionally refurbished parts. However, not every old part can be saved in a way that meets the requirements of a proper veteran restoration. Similarly, not every component is suitable for a tuning project, where strength, precision and reliability are important.
That is why we liked the idea of using lower quality parts in a creative way. The original leaking fuel tank now serves as a housing for the control unit, and the damaged rear box, after modification, carries the battery. The electric Babetta by bbttagroup is not a replacement for proper restoration or classic two stroke tuning. It is an independent project showing that even damaged or less valuable parts can become the basis for something functional and interesting. In the final phase of the project, the Babetta received a yellow and black colour combination inspired by Pikachu, giving it a fresh and modern appearance.

Electric Babetta as a different view of Babetta tuning
When people hear the term Babetta tuning, most of them imagine a performance exhaust, intake modification, carburettor, clutch, gearing or a more powerful engine. All of these have their place in a classic Babetta, and these are exactly the types of parts we work with at bbttagroup. However, the electric conversion shows a different side of modifications. It is not about speed at any cost, but about technical solutions, creativity and the modern use of parts that would otherwise remain unused.
For us, tuning also means thinking about the machine as a whole. Sometimes it is about power, at other times about reliability, appearance, handling or more efficient riding. The electric Babetta shows that the boundaries of modification can be pushed in many different directions.

Modern elements for better usability
During the project, we also considered the practical side. The electric drive brings easier control, less noise and a different type of riding behaviour. At the same time, modern components make it possible to add features that were not common on original mopeds.
Elements such as LED lighting, a modern GPS speedometer, basic data monitoring or easier control in urban riding make sense in a similar concept. On a small and lightweight Babetta, such details can significantly improve everyday use as well as safety.

What this project means for bbttagroup
For us, the electric Babetta is not just a single conversion. It is a way to show that Babetta can be approached with respect, but also with the courage to try new things. We do not want to replace the classic two stroke engine. Quite the opposite, we still love it and we continue to develop parts for those who want to get more out of their combustion engine Babetta.
At the same time, this project fits well with our philosophy: to save, modify, test and move Babetta forward. Whether it is restoration, tuning, practical improvements or an unconventional electric conversion, the foundation is always an interesting technical solution and an honest approach.
Babetta parts, tuning and custom solutions
At bbttagroup.com, you can find parts for Babetta 207, 210, 215 and 225. From tuning components to practical upgrades for better riding. We focus on products that make sense in real use in modern traffic: performance exhausts, intake solutions, clutch parts and components for improving power, appearance and handling.
Whether you are working on Babetta tuning, restoration or simply want to move your moped to a higher level, choosing the right parts is essential. Our goal is to bring solutions that help the community keep Babetta on the road and move it forward at the same time.
Conclusion: even old parts can gain a new purpose
Our electric Babetta was built from parts that were no longer suitable for veteran restoration or classic tuning. Instead of remaining unused, they received a second chance in a project that combines history, creativity and modern electric drive technology.
For us, this proves that Babetta still has potential today. Whether as a preserved veteran, a modified two stroke machine or an unconventional electric project, it can still attract attention, inspire people and connect them around one legend.
