Why won’t my Babetta shift into second?
-
The shift shoes are contaminated with oil
-
The lining on the shift shoes is worn out
-
The drivers aren’t spreading the shift shoes correctly
Fixes
1) Shift shoes are contaminated with oil
Clean the shift shoes and the second-gear drum with a solvent (e.g., brake cleaner) and lightly sand/scuff them.
2) Shift-shoe lining is worn
Diagnosis: with the shoes pressed by hand, there’s a gap of roughly > 3 mm between the drum and the shoe.
Remedies:
-
New shoes are commonly sold, but aftermarket quality isn’t always sufficient.
-
Specialized shops can reline the shoes.
3) Drivers don’t spread the shift shoes properly
If none of the above solves the issue, you can replace the drivers/actuators with new ones.
